What you're booking
SOLNA runs guided group hikes in the Lake District: one well-chosen fell, a route planned in advance, two leaders who know it, and food and a drink in the nearest village when you're down. Most people come on their own the first time, and you don't need to have been up a fell before. You'll be told exactly what to bring when you book.
The fells are picked for the group and the forecast, not for the photo. Every walk has its own page with the distance, the climbing, the route in order and who it suits. New dates land on the walk dates page first, then in the Solna WhatsApp community and on Instagram.
Tickets are £15, under-16s come free, and a quarter of every ticket goes to CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably. Booking is online, takes a couple of minutes, and your place is confirmed the moment the payment goes through. Questions first? Call Tom on 07871 624 435.
In the calendar
Three dates before the year's out. Each one has its own page with the route and what to bring, and payment is by card through Stripe.
Sunday 1 November 2026 · Little Langdale
Holme Fell (317m): a short, steep pull through juniper and birch to a rocky top above Coniston Water, then down into the old slate workings at Cathedral Cave. Approx. 5 to 6 miles, 3 to 4 hours with stops.
Sunday 29 November 2026 · Coniston
A fell above Coniston while the light's good, then down to Ulverston for the Dickensian Festival. The hill gets picked for the forecast and announced the week before. Approx. 5 to 7 miles.
Sunday 13 December 2026 · Grasmere
Silver How (395m): a short, sharp climb out of Grasmere to one of the best viewpoints in the central Lakes, with Helm Crag opposite and the Langdale Pikes behind. Winter light, low sun, pub after. Approx. 4 to 5 miles, 3 to 4 hours with stops.
How it works
No route-planning, no overthinking. Book, turn up, walk, eat.
Pick a date on the walk dates page and pay by card through Stripe. You get a confirmation email with the meeting point, start time, parking advice and what to bring. Places are limited, and under-16s come free.
Meeting points are at or near the foot of the fell, usually a village or valley car park. The exact spot, start time and parking come with your booking confirmation.
One route, planned in advance and chosen for the forecast and the group. Two leaders, first aid, navigation and emergency kit carried, and a pace that nobody gets left behind at. A proper stop on the summit for photos and a brew.
Food and a drink nearby, with people who were strangers that morning. On some routes there's an optional cold water dip in a tarn, beck or pool on the way down. Never compulsory, always talked about after.
Who's leading
Solna was started on a hill by two people who've been taking groups out around the Lakes for ten years. Jimmy is an experienced personal trainer who built a running community from scratch, has done all 214 Wainwrights, and thinks every big day should end with hot food and a brew. Tom is an ultra and trail runner with 172 Wainwrights so far and years across the Lake District, the Pennine moors and the mountains of North Wales.
There are two leaders on every walk and both do all of it: routes, pace and safety. Both are currently completing their Mountain Leader qualifications. If the weather turns, they change the route or the day, not the standards.
More about Tom & JimmyUnder-16s come free. Cancel more than 5 days before the walk for a full refund; within 5 days it's non-refundable. If Solna cancels, you get a full refund or a transfer.

Getting there
Solna is based in the North West, and the walks are chosen with people driving up from Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire and Lancashire in mind. Keswick, Grasmere and Coniston are all around two hours from both cities by the M6: junction 36 at Kendal for Grasmere, Langdale and Coniston, junction 40 at Penrith for Keswick. Buttermere is a little further on from Keswick over the Honister or Newlands passes.
Lake District car parks fill up early on a dry weekend, so give yourself time. Your booking confirmation tells you exactly where to meet, what time to be there and where to park.
Where we've been
Ten years of group walks round these fells, now under the Solna name. Every walk gets its own page afterwards with the route, how the day went and the photos.
Sunday 30 August 2026 · Buttermere
Fleetwith Pike (648m), straight up the heather ridge from Gatesgarth Farm with a bit of hands-on rock, a summit looking down the whole length of Buttermere and Crummock Water, down past Dubs Bothy, and a swim in the Warnscale Beck pools to finish. Around 600m of climbing over roughly 5 miles.

Sunday 27 September 2026 · Keswick
An easy day, open to first-timers and families. Out of Keswick along Derwent Water, up through Great Wood to the panorama from Walla Crag (379m), across to the stone circle and back into town for food. Our youngest walker was ten and went home with a Junior Mountain Adventurer certificate.
Read about the dayEach walk's page says how far it is and how much climbing there is, and the ones built for first-timers say so. If you're still not sure, call Tom on 07871 624 435 or email hello@solna.uk and we'll tell you straight.

Routes are chosen for the forecast and the group. If the weather turns, we change the route or the day, not the standards. If Solna cancels a walk for weather or safety, you get a full refund or a transfer to another date.
Groups are capped so two leaders can keep everyone together, and both leaders carry first aid, navigation and emergency kit. Most people come on their own the first time; by the time you're in the pub afterwards, nobody is.
Yes, on the gentler walks. Under-16s come free, and every young walker who finishes their first mountain hike gets a Solna Junior Mountain Adventurer certificate. Our youngest so far was ten.
No. Some walks finish with an optional dip in a tarn, beck or pool when the route allows, and many don't. If there is one, plenty of people paddle, cheer and take the photos instead. The cold water page explains how we keep it safe.
Corporate days, charity walks and private groups are in the pipeline, and Tom and Jimmy are already taking enquiries. Call Tom on 07871 624 435 or email hello@solna.uk with rough numbers and dates and we'll come back to you.
The Lakes are home. Solna walks are in the Lake District or North Wales, and every date that's set is on the walk dates page.
